APPEAL OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF ABKHAZIA to the Military Council and to the Interim Government of the Republic of Georgia

In the beginning of February of the current year the units of the National Guard of Georgia were introduced to the territory of Abkhazia with a goal to de-block the railway and the airport of the city of Sukhumi.

Taking into account that the Military Council and the Interim Government of the Republic of Georgia gave firm guarantees that after the fulfillment of these tasks, the Guard would be withdrawn, and the Government of Abkhazia was not impeding the introduction of the troops.

At present time the tasks have already been fulfilled.

At the same time, existence of the formations of the National Guard has escalated the socio-political and criminal situation in Abkhazia. The personnel of National Guard of Georgia, during its stay in Abkhazia, have committed several especially dangerous crimes – murders, robberies, thefts, etc.

The Supreme Council of Abkhazia takes all the necessary measures on normalization of the situation in the republic but further deployment of the National Guard of Georgia in Abkhazia will impede the stabilization of situation.

In this regard, The Supreme Council of Abkhazia, in compliance with the agreements, considers it necessary to withdraw the units of the National Guard of Georgia from the territory of Abkhazia. On its part, the Supreme Council of Abkhazia guarantees normal functioning of the railway and of the airport of the city of Sukhumi.
